New Groove Magazine Presents: Emerge Restless

Emerge Restless

  1. How did you come up with the band Name?
The name is a representation of how you should never give up, no matter how tired you get. Never give up. Emerge at the other end, even if it means you must emerge restless.
  2. Tell us about where you come from and how that reflects in the music?
We come from Virginia beach, VA. Virginia Beach is in all of us. It’s such a cool place to grow up and it’s got a really great music scene.
  3. Tell us about the song-writing process, how do you create your music?
    a. What comes first:
    i. the idea?
    ii. A riff?
    iii. The lyrics?
The guitarists come up with the riffs and the overall structure of the song. The drummer then lays a beat to it and in the process, the song structure gets discussed by all the members and gets tweaked further. After everyone is happy with the song structure, the singer then writes the lyrics and arranges the vocals between himself and the backup vocalist. This is sort a general routine we seem to follow.
  4. Who has influenced you the most?
We can go on and on with this list so we’ll just say that our influences include Deftones, Glassjaw, Marvin Gaye, Thrice, The Carpenters, STP, Car Bomb, Metallica, Jimmy Eat World, Tesseract, etc.
  5. What was the first song you or your band ever wrote? Tell us if you performed it, trashed it, etc…..
The first song in Emerge Restless ever wrote was called “So far between us“. We always talk about bringing it back but it has more or less been in limbo. It’s not a bad song. As a band we definitely have improved since then but all of our songs have a special place in our hearts.
  6. What song are you most connected to or proud of?
I think right now we are most connected to Venom. Yes, we all love that one.
  7. Do you enjoy playing live and what do you enjoy about it?
We definitely love playing live when the opportunity arises. There’s nothing like putting all your emotions into a performance and feeding off each other’s energy at the same time.
  8. What is next for the band?
We just want to continue making the music we love. We’re looking forward to completing our upcoming album.
  9. Any additional thoughts or Comments you would like to add?
We’re just five guys who really love music and really love to create and have fun doing it and we hope that people enjoy our art.
