New Groove Magazine Presents: Aeries

Genre: Groove Metal

  1. How did you come up with the band Name?
    N/A
  2. Tell us about Where you com from and how that reflects in your music?
We are from the area of Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf in Germany. I think, the fact that we are living in different cities, has a huge impact on our music. Everyone is getting inspired by different things and surroundings.
  1. Tell us about the song-writing process, how do you create your music?
We are mostly working on songs online; sending each other riffs, ideas, drumbeats and lyrics or melodies. Writing, rewriting, rearranging stuff until everyone is happy. This also made songwriting an applicable option during those corona lockdowns.

So basically we are working pretty remotely and merge everything together at rehearsals; see if the ideas we came up with are working. The most important part for us is, that our music expresses the identity of every single band member.

Most of the time the chronological order is:

1)  Riff

2) Idea/structure of the song

3) lyrics and finetuning.

After the “skeleton” is finished, Laura adds her lyrics.

It really depends on the song. But usually, Julian (Git) comes up with a riff and then everyone comes along with ideas and thoughts about it, rearranging and so on. Fortunately, we are pretty much on the same page most of the time, so this makes songwriting a very fulfilling and exciting process for us.

  1. Who has influenced you the most?
    Julian: Queen
    Marius: Tool
    Laura: Porcupine Tree
    Dome: Blackout Problems
  1. What was the first song you or your band ever wrote? Tell us if you performed it, trashed it, etc.….

The first song we ever wrote and finished was our debut single ‘waves’. This song meant of course a lot to us, because it was the very first situation for us to see, if and how we work together as a band. To perform this at our first concert was absolutely emotional and positively overwhelming for us. Especially because we had the opportunity to play our very first show at Sparkassen Park Mönchengladbach, where we supported the mighty Jinjer on their Macro World Tour 2020!

So you can imagine:

1)      playing our first live show

2)      performing our first song ever written

3)      at an incredible venue

4)      supporting one of the most exciting metal bands ever

5)      during corona times…….

A very explosive, bonding, positive, dazzling, surreal experience we will truly never forget!

  1. What song are you most connected to or proud of ?
Of course “Waves”, because it was the first song we ever played together as a band and the harmony between the bandmembers was just electrifying, but especially I think we are proud of our new single GISMA, which will be released next week including a killer video! During the writing and recording process, we could just feel, that we created something, which is – at least from our perspective – 100% authentic and truly represents us as a band. This of course makes us unbelievably happy! We really hope the audience will dig it, fingers crossed!
  1. Do you enjoy playing live and what do you enjoy about it?
    Of course we do!
There are so many things to enjoy about playing live. It starts with the soundcheck and the audience that are waiting at the venue being excited for the concert. The most intensive thing about it is the energy transfer between the audience and us. The moment, when the power of music spreads its magic!
  1. What is next for the band?
We premiere our new song GISMA during EUROBLAST FESTIVAL : HOMECOMING LIVESTREAM on 3rd of October! A week after that, it will be released on all known platforms.

We are also playing more live gigs, for example Push Festival and we are also planning on releasing another song in the very near future. So stay tuned and keep your eyes open on our Instagram and Facebook!

  1. Any additional thoughts or Comments you would like to add?
A big thanks to all of you who supported us from the beginning or came up in the last few months.
We are so happy and thankful for all the love and the support! We are so excited to play live again as soon as possible! So stay healthy and take care of you!
