New Groove Magazine Presents: EGO Kill Talent

Genre: Hard Rock

  1. How did you come up with the band Name?
Before we started this band we were very good friends already and we always liked to talk about life and it’s challenges. If you start to wonder about your difficult times and sufferings, most of them unnecessary, you’ll see that our ego has a big part in it in one way or another and that was the kind of thing we liked to share and talk about, you know?  So we decided we wanted a name that would reflect that and be a statement at the same time. A name that we would feel represents what we believe in and have some impact at the same time. Me and Jean were staring at the saying “Too much ego might kill your talent” and the words ego-kill-talent popped out  for us and we immediately felt in love with it.
  2. Tell us about Where you com from and how that reflects in your music?
I am from Brazil, my dad’s family is from Holland but my father had a home in the US for many years. So I grew up travelling around and one thing that was constant for me was Rock music. I was always listening to my favorite bands on my walkman and, later, discman. I’d rush to visit rock record stores anywhere I’d go. So I guess that made me feel more and more connected to rock music in general.

Being in Brazil is impossible not to be impacted by typical brazialian drumming and melodies, so that also came into the mix for sure!

  1. Tell us about the song-writing process, how do you create your music?
Almost always it is a riff!!
  1. Who has influenced you the most?
Well, that answer would have be a long list if I’d want to be accurate but if I’d have to say “the most” then definitely Metallica and Guns N Roses.
  1. What was the first song you or your band ever wrote? Tell us if you performed it, trashed it, etc.….
The first song we wrote in Ego Kill Talent was SUBLIMATED and it did pretty well when we released it! It is in our first EP and later we included it in our first album.
  1. What song are you most connected to or proud of ?
Honestly I’m really proud of every song we released so far! But I can mention some songs that give me the goosebumps when we play live; We All, Heroes Kings and Gods, Last Ride and The Call.
  1. Do you enjoy playing live and what do you enjoy about it?
I totally Love playing live! What I enjoy the most is the connection with my band mates and with the crowd all together!
  1. What is next for the band?
Well, if it weren’t for Covid 19 we’d be touring the world and supporting some big names like Metallica, System of a Down and Foo Fighters. Because of the pandemic all touring plans got pushed for whenever touring is happening again.

But during this crazy and hard times we are releasing our new album called The Dance Between Extremes. We recorded it at the 606 Studios and it was an amazing experience!

We decided to slice the album release in 3 batches with 3 to 4 songs each. Batch number two is coming out at the end of the year!
