The Tortured formed in 2012 when Johnny Lawrie (Lead Guitar/Lead Vocals) met Sam Gearing (Drums) at in Open Mic in Berkeley, California. They soon started practicing together. They went through many lineups, but finally in October 2016 Derek Zender (Bass/Vocals) joined. The trio embarked on the Bottom of the Bay West Coast Tour in November 2016. On May 26, 2017 the trio one San Francisco’s Battle of the Bands. Which gave then a spot to play on June 11, 2017 at the Haight Asbury Festival. After this they wanted to go more in depth with their sound, and in December 2017 recruited another guitarist, Jeremiah Johnson. The quartet continues to record, play locally, and tour California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, and beyond. They are based in San Francisco, California.
