New Groove Magazine Presents: SixStringNoise

SixStringNoise

  1. How did you come up with the band name ?
Well I used to have the nickname SixStringNoise as a band member or a Dj, or whatever…. I really loved that one and I kept it for good. Originally came from Bon Jovi’s famous track called “Wanted Dead or Alive” where the lyrics sayin’ “A loaded six-string on my back”. I really loved the “SixString” thing, so because is Rock and Metal suited perfectly!
  2. Tell us about where you come from and how that reflects in the music.
I was born in Athens (Greece) and my father is from Crete, so I have strong bonds from both places! Really feeling like home when I visit my lovely island and of course in Greece we have great musicians and traditional Greek music which reflects, intensely on my music and my influences in general. Growing up with Cretan music even before Rock and Metal had a great impact till nowadays. When I am listening this music on the radio, or in weddings or in traditional festivals my mind always reflects on my early ages, which is always really touching. So my music if you search deep in my songs, for example in “Relics” or “Keep the Change” you will realize that!
  3. Tell us about the song-writing process, how do you create your music ?
Hmmmmm….. it can be number 1 and 2 and rarely number 3. I mean when I was in high school back then, I didn’t had much experience in songwriting and whatever came first I followed the rest. But now things are coming up subconsciously mostly by gathering some ideas and riffs, that could match to a song without exaggerating nowadays and keep it in normal time duration or singing an idea on my phone and then becoming a whole song, by transferring it to my guitar. These “singing” songs are the best ones and most melodic and catchy. Then lyrics pop up from nowhere by singing my ideas and mostly the melodies. Then I keep those words and try to combine them suitably to a great English word or phrase that I found really cool and proper for having it, as a title of a song. Many times when I see a movie or series or from radio I could pick up some very nice titles for songs, or for an album. It all depends on my mood, timing and inspiration!
  4. Who has influenced you the most ?
Definitely my top influences are: Iron Maiden and Alter Bridge. These are my two all time favorite bands.
  5. What was the first song you or your band ever wrote? Tell is if you performed it, trashed it, etc….
Well fist song I’ve ever written was for a high school punk rock band we used to have since 1997 and it was pretty much closely to The Ramones and we always performing this one on our gigs. Was something like our trademark lol! Of course I kept it and even it sounds nowadays funny to me because of the simplicity and the rough written music style I totally respect it, because everybody starts from zero and then makes a progress depending to your devotion in music, believing in your self and hearing as much music and practicing with your musical instrument as much as you can (Practice never ends!). And first lyrics were back in 1996 and they were in Greek language!
  6. What song are you most connected to or proud of ?
Definitely two songs that I am truly truly proud of are: 1) Cold Damned Season (2017), 2) Relics (2019) and 3) Drown in Me (2015). The first two are absolutely epic ones with long time duration and length with many ideas, melodies and lyrics that could be part of a book/poem or something. ‘Drown in Me’ is much more personal, takes me to a different era with many melodies, much more kinda Rock ballad but heavy as well. This song truly expresses me and I guess many people out there, when with many thoughts that aren’t real just thoughts and fantasies or illusions, you feel kinda drowned inside yourself and there’s always a way finally that can “pull you out” and become again the real you without dark thoughts and negative vibes.
  7. Do you enjoy playing live and what do you enjoy about it ?
Live or gigs or some acoustic performances were cool till around 2014. I have great memories and some times I miss those days. But people, friends etc. are changing and the seasons as well with a result to stop playing live and dedicate all my free time on creating new ideas and make them whole, writing albums that I am truly proud of and that’s what I am about to do from now on. The vibe on live performances is really instance and exciting, you feel the adrenaline on high levels, you know that you are about to play your own songs in front of your friends and people who came to see you, so even there are 10.000 or something or 10, you gotta respect anyone and play! Play and do your best. I’ve been through that and I never regret it…it’s just that I am on a different mood as I grow up and becoming more mature on facing some things with members and difficulties, on matching with behaviors that were even ungrateful or they just changed and had other priorities than playing music. Even now my daily program with work and other hobbies is full, so even I wanted to play again I really couldn’t make it this time. So, I stay on my studio and working non stop on new songs!
  8. What is next for the band ?
Right now I am in the middle of the new album recording process. Already I have 5 songs written and I am about to write another 6 or 7, for the aggregating track list of my upcoming 5th full length album called ‘Hanami’.
  9. Any additional thoughts or comments you would like to add ?
I would like to express my sympathy and support to all the bands and artists that were “hit” by the Corona outbreak and financial disaster already. I wish that this situation will end soon, for the sake of all of us and stay safe and full of positivity and that goes, to every individual out there. Music heals many things especially mental issues, so support your favorite artists and bands and Rock ON as always!
