Press Release:

September 18, 2020 –  New York, NY:  Marieme releases a new video today for her cover of the Sam Cooke classic ‘A Change Is Gonna Come.’  100% of streaming proceeds from ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ will go to Black Lives Matter. She explains the choice to cover this particular song: “Since the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Aubrey my heart was so heavy that I found myself crying all the time. The only way to get through the tears was to sing to myself “A change is gonna come.” The track will be on her forthcoming EP Songs For The Revolution out on October 28th.
The Clip was filmed in Los Angeles during Juneteenth celebrations at a protest March in Baldwin Hills. While capturing footage she caught the attention of Melina Abdullah, co-founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter and was invited to sing the song on stage.  Since that initial impromptu performance, Marieme sang the tune acapella at more protests and the most recent was shared by actress and model Cara Delevigne on her Instagram with over a million views in just twenty-four hours.

Marieme has been doing ‘healing’ Instagram and Facebook live sessions and will be doing one today at 4pm EST.

Marieme jokes she writes too many songs about love and her new and upcoming releases she does just that. She feels it is important to continue to focus on the message that love is the only thing that can conquer hate as well as singing that it is time for a revolution. She started this year off with an acoustic video of her song ‘Be The Change’ featuring young guitar whiz Melanie Faye seeing over 3 million views on Instagram and over 150,000 plays on Youtube.  She also recently released a video for ‘Lovechild.’  The clip premiered on Billboard.com and was directed by Fredgy Noël and features the names and faces of Transgender women of color murdered in this country this year.  “Trans lives matter, we know nothing about their struggle and whether you agree with their life or not, it is your duty to treat every human being as such, a HUMAN!  Unfortunately, the rate in which Black Trans women are being killed is alarming. There are many constructs to deconstruct, that’s the only way to end oppression for all.”                                                                                                                      Marieme has released one EP in 2018 and after the upcoming EP she plans to release a debut LP in 2021. She has songs featured in several television programs: ‘Rogue’ and ‘Love Child’ were featured in the Apple + show ‘Truth Be Told’ and she has seen tracks featured in OWN Network’s Iyana Fix My LifeNetflix’s Free Reign, The CBS mini-series The Red Line and was also the voice of the latest Linkedin national television campaign featuring her cover of Cat Stevens’Be What You Must.’ Marieme is also making waves in her home country of Senegal and has already shared the stage with numerous notable players such as African music legends Youssou N’dour and Pape et Cheikh. Marieme will announce more details about her forthcoming EP in the coming weeks.
